2015.003.011.B.792 - Punta Gorda Long Dock
Steamers operated on a regular schedule between Punta Gorda, New Orleans, Key West and Havana. In 1896 Henry B. Plant, who controlled the railroad, removed the rails from the Long Dock where there was twelve feet of water and terminated his line on the new railroad dock where there was only five feet of water, thus the Morgan Line could not serve Punta Gorda and the young seaport was cut off from developing as a deep water port.
